At least nineteen people, including four journalists working for international media outlets, were reportedly killed this Monday, August 25, in an Israeli attack on a hospital in the southern Gaza Strip.
The official Palestinian television reported that among the dead was its cameraman, Hussam al-Masri, who also worked for the Reuters news agency. According to what Reuters later reported, the cameraman was killed in the attack on the hospital while he was broadcasting live footage of the first attack. As a result, the footage suddenly stopped.
While "Al Jazeera" confirmed that its photographer, Mohammad Salama, was also among those killed.
A medical source quoted by Anadolu Agency also confirmed the death of photojournalist Maryam Abu Daqqa.
Another NBC photojournalist, Moaz Abu Taha, was also killed in the Israeli attack targeting the hospital.
The Palestinian Civil Defense reported in a statement that the driver of a fire truck was killed during the attack and that seven others from his team were injured while trying to rescue victims and extract bodies.
According to Anadolu Agency correspondents, the Israeli army attacked the top floor of the emergency building, known as the "Al-Yassin" floor.
Earlier, the Gaza Health Ministry said in a statement that eight people were killed and several others were wounded in the attack. The ministry added that the Israeli army hit the fourth floor of one of the buildings in the complex in two airstrikes, noting that the second strike occurred as rescue teams had arrived to evacuate the wounded and retrieve the dead.
These developments come after the August 10 attack in Gaza City that killed six Al Jazeera journalists. Israeli authorities later accused one of the dead of being a Hamas commander, without providing any evidence.
