US President Donald Trump has reacted to what is happening after the imposition of tariffs. The US stock market has been shaken, but the American president has no intention of taking any steps back.
Through a post on the "Social Truth" network, Trump called on American citizens to remain strong and courageous, not surrendering to the consequences of his economic policies.
“ The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done decades ago. Don’t be weak! Don’t be foolish! Stay strong, brave, and patient, and greatness will be the result! ” he wrote.
Meanwhile, in a statement to the media earlier, Trump insisted that he had no intention of causing a fall in financial markets, but reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating the United States' trade deficit.
" We have a trillion dollar trade deficit with China, hundreds of billions of dollars that we lose every year. Without this being resolved, there will be no deal ," Trump said.
The US president stressed that the US, which he called "long abused", collects billions of dollars every week from tariffs already imposed on countries he accuses of benefiting from them.
Trump particularly attacked China, calling it the "biggest exploiter of all", saying its markets were "collapsing", while criticizing its decision to increase its own tariffs by 34% - an increase he said was on top of the "already ridiculously high tariffs" it has imposed for years.
He also complained that Beijing had ignored his warnings not to retaliate, noting that "they have gained a lot over the decades, taking advantage of good old America."
