Trump threatens infrastructure strikes, while Iran calls for mobilization and promises to continue the war
Iran has defied Donald Trump's warning, after the US president declared that "the whole country" could be destroyed if a deal is not reached by Tuesday.
The US president repeated his threat to destroy every Iranian bridge and power plant. Meanwhile, Iran's supreme leader and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed to continue the fight.
Iran's Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports called on young people to form a "human chain" around the country's power plants, following President Trump's threats that the US would bomb Iran's public infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.
“I invite all young people, cultural and artistic figures, athletes and champions to join the national campaign ‘Human Chain of Iranian Youth for a Bright Future,’” wrote Alireza Rahimi on the X platform.
"Tomorrow, Tuesday at 2:00 PM, near power plants across the country, with every conviction and preference, we will stand hand in hand to say: Attacking public infrastructure is a war crime."
Over the weekend, Trump declared that Iran had until Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time to reach a deal.
Iranian authorities have a history of violating international humanitarian law by recruiting child soldiers, particularly during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, where tens of thousands of children were killed.
Late last month, the country's Revolutionary Guard called for civilian "volunteers," as young as 12, to help with the war effort, including participating in patrols, according to human rights organization Amnesty International.
