United States President Donald Trump has ordered a new wave of attacks against Iran, after assessing that previous military actions were not producing the desired effect on the Iranian leadership.
According to sources cited by US media, Trump authorized a second round of strikes on Wednesday, with the aim of increasing pressure on Tehran and pushing it to accept a deal to end hostilities.
However, according to the same sources, the president remained unsatisfied even after this development, believing that Iran was still not taking US warnings and military actions seriously. On Thursday morning, he warned via the Truth Social platform that new and more severe attacks were in the works.
Trump's approach marks a shift from his previous stances during the conflict. Unlike periods when he avoided publicly commenting on military plans, he is now making his intentions and threats known in advance, including references to strategic Iranian targets such as Kharg Island, a major oil hub.
According to a US administration official, Trump has been concerned not only with Iran's stance in the negotiations but also with the way the media is covering the conflict. In particular, he has objected to reports that highlight Iran's military capabilities and its capacity to respond to US attacks.
The source said the president wants to convey the message that the United States remains the dominant force in the conflict and that Iran's options are narrowing.
During an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Trump widely criticized the media's coverage of the war. However, he denied that he was frustrated by developments with Iran.
