Iran warned that it could strike any US military base in Europe if it deems it necessary. The statement was made by Iran's ambassador to Spain, Reza Zabib, who stressed that his country is "a state capable of reacting."
The statement comes at a time of high tension following the American-Israeli attacks on Iran and the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.
In response to the developments, Spain's Interior Minister ordered the strengthening of surveillance and security measures throughout Spanish territory, due to potential threats.
Earlier, Spain refused to grant the United States permission to use joint military bases on its territory for strikes against Iran. As a result, the US withdrew several KC-135 tanker aircraft from bases in Cadiz and Seville.
Meanwhile, US authorities confirmed that the destroyers USS Bulkeley and USS Roosevelt, which left Cadiz last week, participated in military operations against Iran.
Statements and military movements show that tensions between Tehran and Washington are also being reflected in European territory, increasing concerns about the security of American bases in the region.
