Former Russian president and close ally of Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, declared that a Third World War will "undoubtedly begin" if US President Donald Trump continues what he described as a "crazy" course for regime change in Iran.
Asked whether a world war has already begun, Medvedev replied: “ Formally, no. But if Trump continues his crazy course of criminal regime change, it will undoubtedly begin. Any event could be the spark .”
Immediately after the attacks on Iran were launched, Moscow condemned them as “ a pre-planned and unprovoked act of armed aggression against a sovereign and independent state, a member of the UN .” Russia demanded an immediate halt to military operations and a return to diplomacy.
Russian authorities warned that the attacks risked causing "a humanitarian, economic and possibly radiological catastrophe" in the region, accusing the US and Israel of "throwing the Middle East into an abyss of uncontrolled escalation."
In his latest statements, Medvedev described the offensive as “a war by the US and its allies to maintain global dominance.” He used harsh language against Washington and warned that the decision to strike Iran had increased the risk to American citizens.
"Trump has made a grave mistake. With his decision, he has put all Americans at potential risk of retaliation, even though the Iranian regime is unpopular in neighboring Arab countries," he said.
Medvedev added that the Ayatollah's assassination turns him into a martyr figure for millions of Shiite believers and that, according to him, now "there is no longer any doubt that Iran will pursue the creation of nuclear weapons with doubled energy."
His statements reflect the escalation of rhetoric between Moscow and Washington, at a time when the conflict in the Middle East has significantly increased international tensions.
