Top US commander warns of war: NATO must be ready for conflict with Russia and

The Allies have little time to prepare...

The US-led NATO alliance should prepare for the possibility of Russia and China launching wars in Europe and the Pacific simultaneously, with 2027 a possible year of conflict, the top US commander in Europe said on Thursday.

Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich of U.S. European Command, speaking at a meeting of military and defense industry leaders in Wiesbaden, said the situation means allies have little time to prepare.

" We're going to need all the equipment, tools and ammunition we can get to defeat this ," Grynkewich said.

The general added that if Chinese President Xi Jinping takes a step toward Taiwan, he would likely coordinate such an attack with Russian President Vladimir Putin, thus opening up the possibility of a global conflict.

" That, to me, means that both of these things can happen together," said Grynkewich, who also serves as the supreme commander of NATO's allied forces.

Grynkewich's remarks came during a conference hosted by the US Army for Europe and Africa, where military and industry leaders are looking at ways to increase weapons production across the 32-nation NATO alliance.

Grynkewich, who has only been in office for a few weeks as the highest-ranking military officer in Europe, also said that NATO efforts are underway to deploy more Patriot systems to Ukraine.

" I will not reveal to the Russians or anyone else the exact number of weapons we are transferring or when this will happen, but what I will say is that preparations are underway ," he said.

Grynkewich said he will also meet with NATO military leaders in the coming days to seek other ways to increase support for Ukraine, particularly in the area of air defense.

"We will act as quickly as possible on this issue ," he said.

NATO’s push to deploy more air defenses in Ukraine comes after President Donald Trump said last week that the U.S. would provide weapons to Ukraine, through NATO, with allies footing the bill for the systems.
At the RheinMain Conference Center in Wiesbaden, military and defense industry leaders gathered for the Association of the American Army’s LandEuro symposium. The two-day program, which ended Thursday, served as an opportunity for vendors to showcase various weapons systems.

During the event, Grynkewich and General Christopher Donahue of the US Army for Europe and Africa emphasized the need for closer military cooperation with industry and the need for companies to develop systems at a faster pace.

The leaders also warned against viewing the threats posed by Russia and China as separate challenges, arguing that deterrence requires a global approach.

"In my assessment, each of these threats that exist cannot be seen as separate challenges. We have to think about how they all fit together ," Grynkewich said.

Grynkewich added that a key focus for him will also be ensuring that NATO allies are sticking to recent promises to increase defense spending to 5% of gross domestic product and that these increased investments are directed toward the right military priorities.

" Time is of the essence and I intend to constantly emphasize this and let everyone know that we need to leave and we need to act quickly ," he said./ Adapted from "The Geopost"
