Russia has warned the United States not to even think about supporting Israel's bombing campaign against Iran, as the conflict in the Middle East enters its sixth day.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that direct US military aid to Israel could fundamentally destabilize the situation in the Middle East.
Ryabkov, as reported by the Interfax news agency, said that Russia is warning the United States not to offer such assistance to Israel or even consider it. He added that the Kremlin is in contact with both Israel and Iran. Also, the head of Russia's SVR foreign intelligence service, Sergei Naryshkin, said that the situation between Iran and Israel is critical.
The stark warning came as US officials indicated that Iran has 24 to 48 hours to surrender and escape US attack, while President Trump is considering the possibility of getting involved in Israel's war.
White House officials said the next two days will be critical to see whether Washington and Tehran can find a diplomatic solution to the crisis in the Middle East.
Trump posted on Truth Social yesterday that he knows where Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Hosseini Khamenei, is hiding, but would not launch an attack on him "yet," then called on Tehran to "surrender unconditionally."
Khamenei responded today that Tehran "will never surrender."
"This nation will not surrender to anyone in the face of imposition," he said in his first televised comments since Israel launched its surprise attack on Friday.
Khamenei also referred to Trump's recent statements, saying that "smart people who know Iran, the Iranian nation and its history would never speak to this nation in threatening language."
"Americans should know that any American military intervention will undoubtedly be accompanied by irreparable damage," he added. Khamenei said Israel made a "big mistake" with its campaign, vowing it would be "punished."
