The head of the World Jewish Congress requests the intervention of Pope Francis for the release of the hostages from Hamas. The meeting between the head of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, and the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, took place today at the Holy See.
" We ask your Holiness to use your power, your strength, to free these hostages. You may be the only person who has the moral authority to do this ," World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder said during his speech.
Pope Francis has called several times for the release of the hostages and expressed his concern about the attacks on civilians in Israel and Gaza. The number of Israeli and foreign hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip has so far risen to 203.
The World Jewish Congress, which dates back to 1936, represents Jewish communities in more than 100 countries to governments and international organizations.
