The Directorate Against Organized Crime continued with the dismantling of a criminal organization whose members were active in the hydroponic cultivation of cannabis seedlings.
In order to dismantle the organization, on Thursday morning, July 31, a police operation was carried out by officers of the Narcotics Sub-Directorate, with the assistance of officers of the Skiathos Police Station of the Volos Crime Prosecution and Investigation Sub-Directorate, during which 5 people, members of the organization, were arrested.
The case file filed against them, case by case, for establishing a criminal organization, in combination with drug legislation violations, weapons legislation violations, and certificate forgery, includes 3 other individuals.
According to ELAS, a full and in-depth investigation was conducted, which confirmed the defendants' criminal activity in cultivating cannabis seedlings indoors (plantation) using the hydroponic method.
In particular, the Police investigation revealed that the defendants had set up a fully equipped laboratory for cannabis seedlings in a detached house in an area of Eastern Attica, with artificial lighting, creating suitable conditions for the ripening of the plants, with the aim of preserving the production throughout the year, with the aim of further distributing the quantities and earning significant illegal income.
At the same time, the investigation confirmed the existence of an operationally structured criminal organization, with continuous action and distinct roles.
More specifically:
• 30-year-old, who had undertaken the financing and installation of indoor cultivation of seedlings and the finding of the necessary workforce, its coordination and supply for the cultivation and harvesting of cannabis, with the aim of its further distribution,
• 37-year-old, responsible for the overall coordination of the installation and supervision of the cultivation of seedlings in closed environments, the provision of equipment and materials (soil, fertilizers, etc.) and the supply of food to individuals, assisted during his absence by a 43-year-old,
• The 69-year-old and the 43-year-old were responsible for providing space for the installation of indoor cannabis cultivation and supervising it,
• 27 years old, responsible for the control and care of the cultivation of seedlings, as well as their storage for further transport,
• 50-year-old, 38-year-old, and 21-year-old, who were responsible for installing electrical and cooling systems and technical inspection of the plantation.
From the searches carried out at the house, among other things, the following were found and seized: 273 cannabis seedlings, a bag of cannabis branches and leaves weighing 3,000 grams, complete equipment for a cannabis seedling cultivation laboratory, 208 cartridges of various calibers, an empty magazine and a revolver.
The arrested persons, who, as noted in the announcement, have been involved in similar and other criminal offenses in the past, were accompanied to the competent criminal prosecution body.
