UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron met in Munich during the Munich Security Conference to discuss strengthening defense and cooperation with other partners.
According to a British government statement, the three leaders of the countries known as the E3 addressed issues related to increasing collective security and coordination in the field of defense. A Downing Street spokesman conveyed Starmer's position, which emphasized the need for greater joint commitment.
" We must use our great defense capabilities to strengthen our common security and bring benefits to our citizens ," he stressed.
The spokesman added that the three leaders confirmed "continued support for Ukraine, particularly in light of the recent horrific Russian attacks, as well as the commitment to work towards securing a just and lasting peace."
The meeting took place at a time when the British Prime Minister has openly expressed support for closer cooperation with the European Union, although London and Brussels have not yet achieved significant progress in the field of defense.
In conclusion, the three countries declared that they would continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
