NASA has released the first photos taken by Artemis II mission astronauts during their flight near the Moon, offering impressive views from space.
One of the most striking images depicts the so-called "Earthrise," where our planet appears above the lunar horizon. The contrast between the blue Earth and the rough, cratered surface of the Moon creates one of the most powerful visuals of the mission.
In another photo, astronauts captured a solar eclipse, the moment the Moon blocks the Sun, creating a dramatic silhouette in space.
NASA has not said which astronaut took the photos. The crew is currently on their return journey to Earth after a flight that included a flyby of the Moon.
The view of “Earthrise” recalls the iconic Earthrise photograph, taken by astronaut Bill Anders during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, a historic moment that preceded the first human landing on the Moon. Even today, this perspective of Earth as a fragile planet in space remains among the most significant images of space exploration.
According to NASA, the photo was taken through the window of the Orion spacecraft, during a flight phase that lasted about six hours and included a period without radio communication, when the capsule was behind the Moon.
