Serbia's 'two-door' game and Vucic's plan for Kosovo after

Serbia has more and more weapons and is arming itself, but Serbia no longer has the people and army to fight for Kosovo.

The former chairman of the Serbian Liberal Democratic Party and currently president of the Democratic Forum in Serbia, Zoran Vuletic, stated that Serbia started to change its European future 4-5 years ago. According to him, Belgrade and the government of Aleksandar Vucic no longer hide such a fact.

He added that the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping a few days ago to Belgrade and the strengthening of relations between the two countries is an indication that Serbia is playing with two doors. According to him, even the support for the Russian occupation of Ukraine is another indicator. He added that the Serbian government is lining its pockets with Chinese investments in exchange for granting access to Europe.

" I would say that Serbia began to change its future 4-5 years ago, and this was especially visible 2.5 years ago, almost from the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Serbia is one of the few European countries, apart from Belarus, that actively supports this aggression against Ukraine, and these are just the continuation of that political decision that is visible to everyone, especially to our partners in the West.

It is clearly in China's interest to make a country in Europe a partner, and Serbia is currently positioned to accept Chinese influence, not realizing that it is losing its foreign policy and that it will soon feel the consequences. So, I think that the interests of the Chinese state, which wants to enter Europe, have coincided, and I think that the situation is ideal for the Chinese state as far as Serbia and Serbia's relations with the EU are concerned. The best interest of the current people in power in Serbia is to fill their pockets on the one hand and on the other hand, to enable China to have a presence in Europe in the way and to the extent that China wants ," he said in an interview for "The Geopost".

Asked if the EU does not understand the game that Vucic is playing, Vuletic stated that the EU knows all the scenarios but is trying to pull Belgrade towards itself by any means. He emphasized that the EU tried to lend a hand to the opposition, but according to him, the latter proved to be too weak and failed to win the last elections. Vuletic added that this shows that the opposition and the majority in Serbia have almost the same political orientation.

" I am sure that the EU is not keeping its eyes closed, but the EU has understood, I think very well, who it is dealing with. I think that the EU sees that this is clearly close to the maximum or maybe even the maximum capacity of the Serbian society both in this process of membership and in the process of normalization of relations. So, when the EU makes an analysis of Serbia, it makes it much deeper and much wider. We cannot observe EU relations with Serbia only through relations with the authorities. EU officials have an obligation to cooperate with Serbia, but with whom?

The opposition is not doing enough. There were two resolutions which were approved by the European Parliament in the last six months. One was related to Serbia's relations with Russia and the other after the terrorist act in Banjska, when Milan Radojicic, allegedly without the knowledge of the state, organized everything he organized. Our opposition did not say a word about those two resolutions, which are just as important, if not even more important than what they hoped in those panels that the European Parliament would approve.

So the Europeans did not get enough arguments from our opposition that our opposition wants to approach the EU in a more inclusive, serious political way. And that's why I'm not surprised by the continuation and lessening of European pressure on Aleksandar Vučić and the SNS regime, when it comes to all our issues. I think you're absolutely right, what Aleksandar Vučić and our government want. I think the largest percentage of our opposition wants the same thing and I don't see much potential for them to lead a different policy compared to Vucic, unfortunately ," he added.

Asked about Serbia's hopes for a change in geopolitical conditions, such as a Trump victory in the US to launch a war to retake Kosovo or the entity of BiH Republika Srpska, the former Serbian politician stated that such a thing is impossible .

Vuletic said that Serbia no longer has people who are ready to go to war to take Kosovo. He emphasized that the Serbs are already clear that their country lost all the wars that started in the 90s and that Kosovo is a reality that cannot be turned back.

According to him, the nationalist policy of Vucic's party is done to lie to the Serbian people, which then brings consequences to the people of Kosovo and Serbia in the north.

" Serbia has more and more weapons and is arming itself, but Serbia no longer has people and an army that would fight for Kosovo. I would just add that an additional reason for this is because it is clear to everyone here in Serbia that Serbia lost all the wars of the 1990s, and especially to all the politicians, like Aleksandar Vučić, Miloš Vučević, Vojislav Sešelj, it is equally clear that Serbia lost Kosovo in the 1999 war and that this is a permanent fact.

And now all the negotiations we have are practically 20-year succession negotiations. We have, I will say freely, political scoundrels from both sides who lie and manipulate the Serbian people, primarily to keep them in the role of hostages in the north of Kosovo, evil Serbian policies, both towards the Serbian community in Kosovo and towards Kosovo as a whole and therefore also towards its citizens in Serbia" , he said.

As for the prediction of what could happen after the adoption of the UN Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, Vuletic declared that nothing will happen, except victimizing speeches by Vucic and his cabinet.

" It will be another one of the demonstrations or let's say a new round of people complaining about the defeats of their politics. Because Aleksandar Vucic, Ivica Dacic, they were one of the leaders of the Serbian politics of the 1990s, which experienced a political, economic, military and moral defeat. So what can we expect from that parliament, except let's say similar speeches as we had the chance to hear this year in Prijedor at the commemoration of the anniversary of the "Storm" or a couple of years ago at the Drina bridge between Bosnia. Herzegovina and Serbia" , he concluded. / Adapted "Pamphlet" from "TheGeopost"
