The Israeli military says it is stepping up aerial bombardment of Gaza and has once again called for civilians to leave the northern parts of the Strip.

Israeli troops clashed with Hamas fighters inside the Palestinian enclave on Sunday.

The US is seeking to delay an Israeli ground offensive in Gaza in hopes of extracting more hostages and more humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave, according to two sources briefed on the discussions.

Officials at several hospitals in Gaza said they were overwhelmed with casualties on Sunday, with one describing a "bloody day" and another cutting back on treatments amid power and fuel shortages.

The IDF struck a mosque in a West Bank refugee camp early Sunday to thwart what it called "an imminent terrorist attack."

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said the attack was a "dangerous escalation" of recent violence in the occupied territory.

"Bloody day" for hospitals

The death toll in Gaza since October 7 has risen to 4,651 with more than 14,245 injured, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.

Doctors at Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza said they had a "bloody day", shocked by the death toll from a flurry of Israeli airstrikes.

Some parents in Gaza have been directed to write their children's names on their feet to help identify them if they or the children are killed, according to videos filmed by a journalist working for CNN.

And at the belt's main medical facility, Al-Shifa Hospital, doctors have been forced to reduce the length of dialysis sessions for hundreds of kidney patients as electricity and fuel supplies dwindle, the health ministry said.
