Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has presented a proposal for a guarantee system in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, emphasizing Ankara's central role in shaping the idea.
Addressing reporters at an exclusive press conference at the Foreign Ministry in Ankara, Fidan stressed the need for many countries, including Turkey, to act as guarantors once both sides reach an agreement, with the responsibility of ensuring its implementation.
Fidan also stressed the importance of international pressure on Israel to adopt the two-state solution, saying Turkey shared its views on the issue with the parties.
Discussions between the Turkish Foreign Minister and the US revealed that the Biden administration supports the two-state solution. Fidan pointed out the need for the international community to take a more active role in addressing the Israeli-Palestinian issue, Anadolu Agency reports.
He said that the deployment of peacekeeping forces by Turkey in the region was not on the agenda, but emphasized the importance of starting steps towards a two-state solution to achieve lasting peace.
It is necessary for countries in the region to take responsibility and adopt a unified stance when dealing with any party that violates the agreement, he said.
Emphasizing the importance of transforming the current situation into an opportunity for peace, Fidan said that the presence of guarantor countries would be essential in achieving a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
