British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will arrive in Israel today for meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog, before heading to other regional capitals, the British leader's office announced.
Sunak will express the condolences of the British people for the loss of life in Israel and Gaza as a result of the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas militants who control Gaza. The prime minister's office said that Mr. Sunak will warn against further escalation of the conflict in the region.
"Every death of the civilian population is a tragedy. Many lives have been lost after the terrible act of terror by Hamas," Mr. Sunak said in a statement before his visit.
He said the deadly blast at a hospital in Gaza on Tuesday, which killed hundreds of Palestinians, should be "a decisive moment for leaders in the region and around the world to come together to avoid further and dangerous escalation of the conflict", being vowed that Britain would be "at the forefront of this effort".
Sunak will also call for a pathway to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza as soon as possible and to enable British citizens trapped in Gaza to leave.
