Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has stated that Hezbollah fighters will not be allowed to return to the border villages of southern Lebanon.
Yoav Gallant said the militant group had turned the area into an underground military outpost equipped with hundreds of weapons.
"We will not allow terrorists to return to these countries. This is vital to ensure the safety of the residents of northern Israel ," he said in a video statement from the Israel-Lebanon border.
Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged fire across the border for more than a year, with tensions escalating after Israeli troops entered Gaza.
On September 30 of this year, Israeli forces launched a ground operation in Lebanon after killing Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and since then they have been operating in the south of the country. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has continued to fire rockets into northern Israel.
