EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said the coming months could be decisive for the war in Ukraine, urging Western allies to rush to increase aid to Kiev during a visit to Washington.
"The coming months will be decisive. Everything that needs to be done needs to be done quickly, " he insisted, noting that many analysts expect a Russian attack in the summer and Ukraine cannot wait for the outcome of the upcoming US election.
Borrell met in Washington with US foreign policy chief Anthony Blinken.
According to him, if Russian President Vladimir Putin wins this war, invades Ukraine, installs a puppet regime in Kiev, as we see in Belarus, he will not stop there.
"All this will have great consequences for the USA and the alliance systems built around the USA and Europe" , he said.
The EU High Representative also met with Don Bacon, a Republican lawmaker.
Democratic President Joe Biden's administration has been pushing since last year for Congress to approve a $60 billion funding package to continue providing military aid to Ukraine, but the issue remains deadlocked in Congress.
