French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not stop, "he will certainly continue with Moldova and perhaps further with Romania."
While speaking on the issue of Europe's defensive armor in the face of fears of an American disengagement, he said: "The possible US disengagement from Ukraine is not in their (the US) interest," because "what the US has done over the last three years is fully consistent with its diplomatic and military tradition."
If Washington agrees to “sign a ceasefire without offering any security guarantees for Ukraine,” then “its geostrategic deterrent capacity against Russia, China and others will disappear on the same day,” the French president argued.
Reviving the discussion of a European nuclear umbrella to strengthen Europe's security, Macron stressed that a strategic dialogue with European countries that do not possess nuclear weapons "would make France stronger."
"We have a shield, they don't." And they can no longer depend on American nuclear deterrence. We need strategic dialogue with those who don't have it, and that will make France stronger."
