Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky could meet face to face in the near future if talks between Russian, Ukrainian and US delegations continue, Axios reports.
The two-day trilateral peace talks in Abu Dhabi, which ended on Saturday, were the first joint meeting of Russian, American and Ukrainian delegations since the escalation of the conflict almost four years ago.
Axios quoted an unidentified US official on Saturday as saying that negotiations in the UAE "went about as well as we could have hoped. We feel good about where we are right now."
"We are very close to a meeting between Putin and Zelensky," another US official claimed.
Further trilateral Russia-US-Ukraine talks "should happen before a meeting between the leaders. We don't think we're that far off. If we continue on the current path, we'll get to that point," the source explained.
