A very tense episode of “Fuori dal coro” dealt with a sensitive and controversial topic: child brides. A correspondent for the program interviewed an imam, and the answers he received were disturbing, to say the least.
The broadcast covered a case in Brescia, where a 29-year-old Bangladeshi man was sentenced to 5 years in prison for having sexual intercourse with a minor, then 10 years old. The girl, who became pregnant, subsequently underwent an abortion.
Wanting to delve deeper into the issue, Fuori dal coro sent a correspondent to Brescia, who spoke with representatives of the Islamic community. The journalist visited various Islamic cultural centers and spoke with spiritual leaders, discovering, to his surprise, that they have no problem accepting marriages involving 9-year-old girls.
In fact, this is considered completely normal. "You married a 13-year-old girl? Well, you did a good thing," said one of these individuals.
"In our Islam, after 9 years a girl becomes an adult; the girl should be young. Islam says that if the parents are happy, the father and mother are happy, both are in agreement," declares an imam.
When the journalist reminds us that marrying a minor is considered pedophilia, the exasperated response is this: "Our Prophet married a 12-year-old girl. Why can't I?"
Secondo il Corano una bambina di 9 anni può sposarsi?
