Pope Francis has called for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip at this Sunday's Mass in St. Peter's Square.
Citing the deaths of thousands of people since the conflict began on October 7 last year, the Pope said a better world cannot be built this way. He called for an end to the suffering in the Gaza Strip and to think about achieving peace.
"I carry in my heart with pain every day the suffering of the population in Palestine and Israel because of the ongoing hostilities. Thousands of dead and injured, displaced, immense destruction causing pain with terrible consequences for children. I wonder, do you really think you can build a better world this way? Do we really think we can achieve peace? No more please, we all say 'no more please'. Stop ," said Pope Francis.
Further, the Pope called on Hamas and Israel to reach an agreement on the ceasefire and the release of the hostages as soon as possible, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
" I encourage negotiations to continue for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and throughout the region, so that the hostages can be immediately released and returned to their waiting loved ones, and the civilian population can have safe access to humanitarian aid." , he added.
We recall that more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, 2023. Since the start of Israel's response, the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have faced horrors from the various ones, from the mass murders of their family members to the lack of food and drinking water. The situation came to a head a few days ago, where at least 104 people were killed by the Israeli army in the crowd where Palestinians lined up to receive aid.
