The United States has announced sanctions against the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), denying visas to members and officials of these organizations.
The move comes in response to a UN conference, led by France and Saudi Arabia, to support a two-state solution. The State Department accused the PA and the PLO of “internationalizing the conflict with Israel” through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The decision follows pledges by France, the United Kingdom and Canada to recognize an independent and demilitarized Palestinian state, moves that the United States condemned as "anti-Israel." The Trump administration's sanctions are seen as a diplomatic warning to thwart international efforts that challenge the U.S. position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
