The lack of water and the closure of hospitals causes a health crisis in Gaza,

A lack of clean water and overcrowding in Gaza has caused outbreaks of infectious diseases to increase "at an alarming rate", according to the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

She stated that the healthcare system in Gaza was "facing total collapse" and 12 hospitals had been forced to close due to damage, insecurity or lack of fuel.

" All those hospitals that were still operating were cobbling together whatever fuel they could from individuals in the community to keep the power going and the patients alive. Outbreaks of infectious diseases such as chicken pox, skin diseases and bronchial infections are increasing at an alarming rate due to the lack of clean water and overcrowding in shelters and hospitals," stated MAP .

MAP said "most" medical workers had been displaced from their homes - and reported that 19 have been killed since the Israeli bombardment and blockade began.
