Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a telephone conversation with his counterpart in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Russian president thanked Al Nahyan for mediating the prisoner exchange with Ukraine.
They also discussed Russian-American talks on Ukraine, according to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
"The President of the United Arab Emirates supported the efforts undertaken by Russia and the US and particularly welcomed the consultations between expert groups in Riyadh today ," RIA Novosti wrote.
In the most recent example of UAE mediation, Ukraine and Russia exchanged 175 prisoners of war each on March 19. The UAE says that about 3,000 prisoners of war have been exchanged by the two countries through its mediation.
