In a serious state of health, the 'boss' of Cosa Nostra reconciles

As Matteo Messina Denaro's health worsens, the former Cosa Nostra boss has reconciled with his daughter and given her his last name. Lorenza Alagna, born in 1996, during thirty years on the run from a relationship with Franca Maria Alagna, asked for and received permission from the registry office to change her surname to take her father's surname.

Messina Denaro had already consented to the girl's recognition during the conversation they both had in prison in May and according to Corriere della Sera she has already signed the notarial deed. The document has been authorized by the judicial authority and will now have to be sent to the registry office for registration. Alagna will not be added to the Messina Denaro surname, but will replace it.

Matteo Messina Denaro has been hospitalized in L'Aquila, where he is imprisoned under the "41 bis" regime following his arrest in Palermo last January, and is said to have asked not to be resuscitated. His condition is said to be that of a terminally ill cancer patient, as he has a tumor in his colon. For this reason, family visits have become more frequent in recent days.

Lorenza Alagna grew up with her mother, in the house of her paternal grandmother (Lorenza Santangelo, wife of Don Ciccio, Francesco Messina Denaro). Her mother Franca is the sister of accountant Michele Alagna, who ended up under investigation by the Directorate of Anti-Mafia Investigation. At the age of 18, Lorenza left her grandmother's house and today lives in the center of Castelvetrano with her partner (a young man who works in Selinunte) and with her son, whom she gave birth to in July 2021 After graduating from science high school, she enrolled in university. She never denied her father, but after the arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro, he answered the journalist of Fatto Quotidiano: "No, look, I don't want to know anything. She can go back where she came from."

On the other hand, she had never been officially recognized by her father. "I don't know my daughter. I have never seen it. Fate wanted it that way. I hope life takes everything from me and gives it to her. Not knowing your children is against nature", wrote Messina Denaro.

On Facebook, she had written: "How much I would like the love of a person and, unfortunately, this person is not near me and will never be present because of fate", but when asked by the journalists of Tg2 below her house, she didn't even mention her runaway father: "I don't want to be the center of attention," she said. "Enough, I'm a very normal girl like everyone else and I want you to leave me alone: pretend I don't exist."
