I want to clarify Israel's position regarding the ceasefire. Just as the United States would not accept a cease-fire after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, or after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas after the horrific attacks on October 7.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a media conference this evening where he spoke about the war situation in Gaza. He begins his speech by speaking in English and calling the members of Hamas "barbarians" who seek to destroy everything.
Netanyahu said that this is a turning point and that all countries should support Israel in what he called the 'war for hope'.
"A turning point for leaders and nations. It is time for all of us to decide whether we are willing to fight for a future of hope and promise or surrender to tyranny and terror. Rest assured, Israel will fight back. " he said.
Later in his speech Netanyahu made clear on Monday that Israel would not agree to a ceasefire, drawing parallels with the United States' position after Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
" I want to clarify Israel's position regarding the ceasefire. Just as the United States would not accept a cease-fire after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, or after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas after the horrific attacks on October 7. Calls for a ceasefire or calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorists, to surrender to barbarism, that will not happen ," he added.
Netanyahu emphasized that even though the Bible says there is a time for peace, he said: " This is a time for war ."
When asked if he has considered resigning, Netanyahu said the only thing he would resign from is Hamas.
" We will consign them to the dustbin of history. This is my goal. This is my responsibility ," he said.
As for the hostage crisis and the risk of being killed by airstrikes or by mistake by ground action, he declared that this is the only solution.
According to him, the action from the ground does not increase the security of the hostages, but the possibility of finding them, since Israel claims that Hamas will not release them if pressure is not exerted on all sides.
" Ground operations actually create the possibility, not the security, but the possibility of getting our hostages out, because Hamas will not do it [release the hostages] unless they are under pressure. We think this method [ground operations] has a chance " , he declared.
Asked by reporters if Israel is guilty of collective punishment of Palestinian civilians by continuing airstrikes in Gaza. He repeats claims that Hamas is deliberately keeping civilians in combat zones and tells the reporter who asked the question to direct it to Hamas, not him.
" Not a single civilian should die. Hamas should simply let them go to the safe zone we have created in the southeastern Gaza Strip ," Netanyahu declared.
At the end Netanyahu was asked once again about his declining popularity within Israeli politics and wider society, but he shrugged it off saying that his "only focus" is on the war./Pamphlet
