The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Klodiana Spahiu, has commented on the citizen protest that has been taking place in front of the Prime Minister's Office for 45 days, stating that it should not be seen as an obstacle to the European integration process, but as an opportunity to hear the voice of citizens.
Invited to the "Repolitix" show on Report TV, Spahiu said that the protest should take positive elements and demands that, according to her, can serve the work of Parliament.
" We must take from the protests the elements that serve the country. I think by looking at what is positive from the protests, which is the voice that should be heard and serves the country. If we are cooperative with those who seek cooperation, not denial, I believe that this will maximally serve the integration process. I cannot read the protests as a hostage , but I would appreciate the positive part of the citizens, the voice that serves as an initiative for the parliament ," said Spahiu.
She also criticized the opposition's decision to abandon the Assembly, calling it a negative development at a time when Albania aims to progress in the European Union membership process.
" The opposition's approach gives me a negative feeling. Abandoning parliament at this moment is something negative. It is completely different if a bill is passed and a parliamentary session is held where the voices of the opposition and the majority are heard ," she said.
Asked about the opposition's claims that there is no room for debate in the Assembly, since according to them, Prime Minister Edi Rama does not respond to interpellations, Spahiu said that this should not serve as a reason to refuse cooperation.
"This is a process that requires cooperation, so I insist that we seek cooperation with the opposition. This is a process that also requires speed, this is the pace that must be followed," said the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
