In a phone call with US President Donald Trump, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and the US, as well as regional and global issues.
Erdogan expressed to the American president his full confidence that two allied countries, Turkey and the US, will advance their cooperation in the new period with a spirit of solidarity, with a focus on results and with sincerity.
According to the Presidency's announcement, the Turkish President discussed the issue of US CAATSA sanctions against Turkey. He called for the completion of the F-16 procurement process and the restoration of Turkey's participation in the F-35 program, in order to strengthen cooperation in the defense industry.
President Erdogan also emphasized that it is important to contribute together to restoring stability in Syria, the functioning of the new administration and the lifting of sanctions against Syria for normalization.
Erdogan also said that regional and global developments make it necessary to intensify consultations between Turkey and the US on all issues.
He noted that Turkey strongly supports the immediate steps taken by President Trump to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, while adding that Turkey, since the beginning of the conflict, has been working for a just and lasting peace and assured that it will continue to do so.
