At least 34 people have died in the United States, including 12 in Missouri alone from powerful tornadoes.
In Kansas, at least 8 people died after more than 55 vehicles were involved in an accident due to bad weather.
More than 250,000 homes were without power in seven states, including Michigan, Missouri and Illinois, overnight into today. 56 deaths were reported in Mississippi by Governor Tate Reeves, after several tornadoes ripped through the state.
Flood warnings have also been issued for central Mississippi, eastern Louisiana and western Tennessee; as well as parts of Alabama and Arkansas, as severe weather continues in the Southeast.
The Missouri Emergency Management Agency said 19 tornadoes have hit 25 counties so far.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said the flooding could be deadly. Multiple tornado warnings were also issued across Alabama late yesterday evening.
The NWS warned of multiple, intense and long-lasting tornadoes in those areas, describing the situation as dangerous.
The weather agency said: "If you live in these areas, go to the strongest structure you have access to and stay put until the storms pass."
A house belonging to one of the 12 people killed in Missouri was destroyed by a tornado.

"It was unrecognizable as a house. Just a field of debris ," Butler County Medical Examiner Jim Akers told CBS News as rescuers were on the scene. "The floor was upside down. We were walking on the walls," witnesses said.
