A serious incident has been recorded in Corleone, Sicily where a woman killed her disabled daughter and then ended her own life. She had lost her husband a few months earlier.
Italian media report that Luisa Pecoraro, 78, is suspected of drowning her daughter, who suffered from a form of autism. The family tragedy occurred in the historic center of the city. The woman, locals say, had lost her husband eight months ago, a former nurse at the Bianchi hospital. A man who many in Corleone still remember for his kindness. The woman found herself alone to take care of her disabled daughter.
According to an initial reconstruction, Lucia Pecoraro, 78, killed her 47-year-old daughter Giuseppina Milone, who suffered from a form of autism, by strangling her with a rope and then taking her own life.
The murder-suicide was apparently noticed by a neighbor who became suspicious due to some noises coming from the house.
"Immediately after the death of her husband, the municipal social services began working to draw up a care plan. The woman was also being well cared for by her family. So a gradual process was agreed upon. The woman had been well integrated into the parish community; in the parish of Santa Maria. But in recent weeks, something new had emerged: her daughter, in addition to a mental disability due to autism, also had considerable difficulty walking ," said the mayor of Corleone, Walter Rà, commenting on the family tragedy.
