An interview breaks London-Athens relations, Sunak cancels the meeting with

Kyriakos Mitsotakis interview with the BBC during his visit to Britain, about the Parthenon Sculptures in the background seems to have angered the British public. Following his statements, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak canceled a planned meeting with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis in London tomorrow.

Mitsotakis stated that the Parthenon statues should be returned to Greece as they were stolen.

"The sculptures of the Parthenon would look better in the Acropolis Museum. It is not a matter of return, the Sculptures are from Greece and were stolen. For us, it's about reunion, where you can best admire these important monuments in the place where they belong. If we cut half of the Mona Lisa and half was in the Louvre, what would happen?" said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

This is the most serious incident that has happened in recent years for a Greek Prime Minister in office. Two days ago, Germany also criticized Greece regarding the pressure exerted by Athens on official Tirana due to the Beleri case.

Sunak and Mitsotakis were due to meet on Tuesday morning in London. The Greek Prime Minister expressed his regret regarding the cancellation of the meeting, but did not withdraw from his position regarding the return of the Parthenon statues to Greece.
