NATO chief Mark Rutte, US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron all spoke at the end of the summit, with Rutte also touching on the Iran war.
Asked whether or not the alliance would intervene to help the US in its war against Iran, following previous comments, Rutte said that Iran is outside NATO territory and therefore it is not up to them to get involved.
"Iran is outside NATO territory... Iran should not have a nuclear capability, the Strait of Hormuz should be opened and NATO has always taken the position that when it comes to intercontinental ballistic missile capability, Iran should not get its hands on it. But this is outside NATO territory, so it is individual allies who are navigating this with the US ," Rutte said.
Recall that Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO for not being more involved, so this may not be the answer he was hoping for.
