Poland's border guard has asked the government to send an extra 1,000 troops to the border with Belarus to deal with an influx of migrants trying to cross it illegally.
They say at least 19,000 people have tried to cross the border so far this year, up from 16,000 last year.
The Polish defense ministry has already sent more than 1,000 troops to the border in recent weeks, prompted by concerns about the presence of the Wagner mercenary group inside the pro-Russian state.
The Institute for the Study of War says Wagner conducted training exercises at a camp in Brest, Belarus' sixth-largest city - which is a few hundred meters from the Polish border.
But both the UN and the White House have repeatedly insisted that there are no credible signs that Wagner poses any real danger to Poland.
More troops were sent last week after two Belarusian helicopters briefly entered Polish airspace during a training exercise.
