Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez today attacked billionaire Elon Musk for meddling in European politics, accusing him of undermining democracy.
"The international extreme right, which we have resisted for years in Spain, led in this case by the richest man on the planet, openly attacks our institutions, incites hatred and openly supports the heirs of Nazism in Germany," Sanchez told Musk . without mentioning his name.
Sanchez was speaking in Madrid at an event marking the 50th anniversary of the death of dictator Francisco Franco.
Musk, who will serve as a foreign adviser to the US administration during Donald Trump's presidency, spoke on Spanish issues on Sunday, commenting on X about an article that said rape convictions in the northeastern Spanish region of Catalonia involved mostly foreigners .
Sanchez said democracy is fragile and faces an existential threat.
"If history teaches us something, it is that freedom is not always won", he emphasized.
