UN: We can no longer provide humanitarian aid to Gaza

The Commissioner General of the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said that they can no longer provide humanitarian aid to Gaza. In a press conference, Lazzarini announced that there is no water, electricity or fuel in Gaza.

"Now my UNRWA colleagues can no longer provide medical aid to people in Gaza. The number of people seeking shelter in schools and other UNRWA facilities is very large and we no longer have the capacity to handle them," he said.

The general commissioner, Lazzarini, said that soon there will be no food or medicine left in the region.

Before the war, Gaza had been under blockade for 16 years and 60 percent of its population was in need of international food aid, Lazzarini recalled, adding that "Gaza is drowning and it seems that the world has lost its humanity."

"If supplies are not sent to Gaza now, UNRWA and aid workers will not be able to continue their humanitarian aid operations" , declared Lazzarini who called on all parties to open the humanitarian aid corridor.

The Israel-Palestine conflict

The Izzeddin Kassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, on the morning of October 7 announced the launch of the all-out attack named "Aqsa Storm" against Israel.

Thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel as Palestinian armed groups raided and took control of the Beit Hanoun-Erez border crossing on the Gaza-Israel border.

The armed groups then entered Israeli settlements as the Israeli army launched attacks on the Gaza Strip with dozens of warplanes. In the attacks carried out by Gaza, 1,300 Israelis lost their lives while 3,436 others were injured.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has announced that 2,750 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's attacks in Gaza, while 9,700 others have been injured. In the attacks by Israeli soldiers and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank, 58 Palestinians have been killed and around 1,250 others have been injured. Also, 10 journalists lost their lives in Israel's attacks, 9 of them in Gaza and one in Lebanon.

While in the conflicts noted on the Israeli border in the south of Lebanon between Hezbollah and the Israeli army since October 8 until now, 3 civilians, 4 Hezbollah militiamen and 2 members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement have lost their lives. 3 Israeli soldiers lost their lives in the attacks carried out by Lebanon.
