The American confesses the horror: I was shot twice, how I could survive the

An American citizen who was in Israel feels lucky to have made it out alive from the festival where Hamas terrorists wreaked havoc, killing 260 people. Liroy Alex, 28, of Chicago, was at the festival with friends when Hamas gunmen parachuted into the festival site near the Gaza border.

In an interview with the DailyMail, Alex said he did not understand what was happening and even joked with his friends that they thought the organizers were throwing fireworks.

" I heard loud shots in the area and at first we were joking that fireworks were being thrown. But then the organizers stopped the music and informed us that we were being attacked with rockets. We soon realized that the situation was much more serious, as gunshots rang out throughout the festival. We started running to save ourselves," said Alex.

Hundreds of people ran across fields trying to get to their cars. Alex had gone to the festival with two friends. Incredibly, the three managed to get to his vehicle and hide inside, but were caught by Hamas terrorists.

"We got into the car and saw a group of about 20 people on motorcycles zigzagging across the road. They were all armed. At first we didn't understand what it was.

Alex was driving as fast as they could to escape. As we slowed down, we saw a man who had been injured. At that moment I decided to turn back and the terrorists started shooting at our car.

Alex's car was hit by gunfire, shattering the windows, and he was hit in the eye by shards of glass. We had no idea what was going on. As we passed, we were shot. Everything exploded.

Alex was shot with two bullets in the lower back, while his friend's girlfriend was hit in the lung. Finally, the three couldn't keep walking any longer and stopped at what looked like a construction site.

We tried to save the girl. We didn't know who was shooting at us because we didn't understand what was happening. We just saw two groups and thought they were Arabs living in the desert.

We called the police, ambulances, friends sent our location, but it took three hours for them to come" , the young man confesses.

The girl who was with him died from her injuries. Fortunately, Alex and his friend were found by soldiers 13 hours after the shooting began. He spent most of the last week in hospital in Israel and underwent several surgeries.

He still cannot see out of one eye and it is not known if he can fully recover. Despite being 5,000 miles from home, he hopes to return to his hometown of Chicago, where he works as a locksmith, in the coming weeks.
