The former European Union envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajčák, has resigned from his position as advisor to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, after his messages with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein became public.
Prime Minister Fico announced that he would accept Lajcak's resignation, while criticizing his opponents, whom, according to him, he had not seen "so much hypocrisy" in a long time.
" Miro has once again proven himself to be an excellent diplomat and I accept his offer to end our cooperation, although all of us, not just me, are losing an extraordinary source of experience in diplomacy and foreign policy. It is strange that a similar symbiosis of the media, opposition and government parties did not target opposition leader Simecek, who, through grant fraud at the Slovak and EU levels, represents a much greater risk to our country's reputation than the Prime Minister's advisor, Miroslav Lajčák ," Fico said in a statement.
New court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein were released in the United States on Friday, and among them is Lajcak's communication.
Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajčak held the position of High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina and European Union Special Representative for the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
His name also appears in more than three million files released by the U.S. Justice Department on Friday. He is alleged to have exchanged messages with Epstein about various women. Another official, former Montenegrin president and prime minister Milo Djukanovic, is also named.
Documents with hundreds of messages between Lajcak and Epstein are available on the US Department of Justice website, which testify to a much closer relationship than Lajcak previously admitted.
It is also clear from the messages that he helped Epstein's friend, Steve Bannon, a political strategist and former top adviser to Donald Trump.
In the 2018 messages, Lajcak arranged Epstein's visit to Montenegro and said that Djukanovic was looking forward to it. Epstein replied that he should probably offer Donald shelter, to which Lajcak said Montenegro was his weak spot. In another instance, he once again confirms that he is the then-president, Djukanovic.
In early October of that year, he thanked her from Kiev with the message: " Just to confirm that the girls here are as beautiful as ever . "
Epstein then offered the girls via text message, commenting that Lajcak could take their sisters as well. He added that they were probably too young for him, as they were not even 30 years old, to which Lajcak replied: " Don't be rude. I don't know how I act."
Despite resigning, Lajcak categorically denied ever discussing women with Epstein and rejected this interpretation of the messages.
