
French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the crisis in the Middle East and Ukraine on Monday.
The two leaders exchanged views on the war in the Gaza Strip, while Macron presented his country's efforts to free hostages held by Hamas.
He also briefed the Chinese president on France's initiatives aimed at peace and security in the region, the fight against terrorist organizations, the provision of aid to Gaza civilians and the launch of a process aimed at establishing two states in the region.
The war in Ukraine
The French president also expressed France's support for Ukraine against Russia's aggression, but also his concern about Russia's military cooperation with North Korea.
The French president, as stated in the announcement, asked the Chinese authorities to preserve the dialogue channels with Kiev.
China pledges to reduce fossil fuel use
The two presidents also discussed the issue of global warming, and according to the Elysee, China pledged to stop financing coal export plants abroad and continue to gradually reduce the use of fossil fuels on its territory.
Finally, ahead of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, the two presidents agreed to maintain the momentum created after Macron's recent visit to Beijing.
