At least seven people were killed and 13 others injured in a fire that broke out in a building under construction north of Moscow, Russian authorities announced, according to the TASS news agency.
Emergency services announced that the fire started in a still unfinished multi-story residential building in the Airport area, and spread to the second and third floors.
More than 30 people were evacuated from the scene, where estimates suggest up to 200 people may have been present at the time of the incident.
Firefighters used lifting equipment to reach the upper floors, while other units intervened inside the smoke-filled building to locate and bring the flames under control.
The prosecution has launched criminal proceedings for possible violations of construction safety regulations. Investigators are working to determine the causes of the fire.
The death toll from a fire in northern Moscow has risen to five. Nine people are being treated by medics, and 31 have been rescued, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
