Shkruar nga PamfletiThe commander of a group of Israeli soldiers known as the "Ghost" unit was killed fighting against Hamas when the militants first struck in southern Israel.
Colonel Roy Levy, 44, was the head of a secret commando group set up to fight Hamas using drones and other modern warfare techniques.
He was killed as his forces battled Hamas militants in the community of Reim, near the Gaza border, where some 260 festival-goers were killed when violence erupted on Saturday.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Levy bravely led his team, engaged the terrorists and entered the battle first in Kibbutz Re'im in order to rescue civilians who were surrounded in their homes.
About 10 Palestinian terrorists were killed during Saturday's fighting, the IDF said. The Ghost Unit, officially Unit 888 'Refaim' was established in 2019 and is said to be involved in covert reconnaissance missions to eliminate Hamas.
Colonel Levy is among dozens of soldiers who have died as Hamas claims its fighters are still present in Israel.
