"I don't just expect statements"/ Sveçla harsh on Albania:
Xhelal Sveçla

Kosovo's Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has demanded a stronger and more concrete reaction from Albania following the statement by Serbian Minister Snežana Paunović, who said that if she had been in Slobodan Milošević's place in 1998, she would have carried out ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.

Invited to the "Now" show with moderator Erla Mëhilli on Euronews Albania, Sveçla stated that Albania, as the mother country of Albanians, should take a more active stance towards these statements.

" Of course, since Albania is the homeland of Albanians and since the Albanian Constitution itself states that it is an obligation to protect Albanians and their interests, I expect more. It means that I expect a factual, active reaction to these threats. Because these are not declarations, these are also threats, which are based on the past, very painful for us, and on the behavior of Serbia. I believe that Albania's reaction should be more concrete and more active. This two-faced behavior of Belgrade needs to be exposed, because there are no problems with Kosovo, but problems with Albanians ," declared Sveçla.

Commenting on the Serbian minister's statement, Sveçla stressed that it cannot be considered an individual position, but reflects, according to him, Serbia's historical policy towards Albanians.

" It is absolutely not a personal statement of an individual. She is a minister in the Serbian government and reflects a historical stance of Serbia against Albanians. It is not the first time that we are victims of Serbian violence. The fact that most Kosovo Albanians live abroad and that we have a strong diaspora is a result of Serbia's continued repression of Kosovo citizens. This is just a new episode, a desire of her and her government to repeat the painful stories of Albanians ," he said.

Svečla also reacted to the statements of Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, saying that Serbia's current leaders have never distanced themselves from Slobodan Milošević's policies.

" Ivica Dacic's stance is not unknown to Albanians either. He was Milosevic's number two and is the chairman of the Socialist Party of Serbia. They have never distanced themselves from Milosevic's genocidal policies, neither towards Albanians, nor towards Bosniaks, nor towards Croats. Even Vucic himself was Seselj's number two. It is the same clique, the same politics, only the circumstances are different. Today Kosovo is a sovereign state and is strengthening the institutions that protect its citizens every day. Apart from declarations and threats, these can only remain at the level of wishes ," said the Kosovar minister.
