US President Joe Biden is expected to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later today to discuss the possible ground offensive in Rafah.
The American official who confirmed the call, said that he cannot talk about the attack in Rafah, since according to him the US has made it clear to Israel that such an attack should not happen.
" We cannot talk about IDF operations. We have made clear our views on a major ground invasion of Rafah to the Israeli government and the president will speak to the prime minister today. "We continue to believe that a hostage deal is the way to go. better to preserve the lives of the hostages and avoid an invasion of Rafah, where more than a million people have taken refuge. Those talks are ongoing now ," the official said.
An Israeli official also confirmed that the two leaders will speak today. The US was reportedly briefed by Israel before the IDF announced the evacuation of eastern Rafah.
The Biden administration has previously said there could be consequences for Israel if it moves forward with the operation without a credible plan to protect civilians.
