Testifying before a Senate committee, Pete Hegseth admitted he was ready to carry out any order from the president regarding Iran.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the US military is ready to implement any decision that President Donald Trump may make on Iran.
Testifying before a Senate committee, Pete Hegseth admitted that he was ready to carry out any order of the president towards Iran and warned Tehran that it should have paid attention to the US president's calls to reach an agreement on its nuclear program.
"They should have made a deal. President Trump's word means something. The world understands that. And at the Department of Defense, our job is to stay ready and prepared with options, and that's exactly what we're doing," Hegseth said.
Hegseth was asked on the Senate Armed Services Committee whether the Trump administration was moving to restore deterrence, a term used to describe actions intended to limit an adversary from taking hostile action.
He stated that such a step has already been taken and that work is being done to predict how the situation may develop in the coming hours and days.
"I think we have already in many ways restored prevention in this environment. The question is, in the coming days, what direction does this go in ," Hegseth said.
Earlier today, Trump refused to answer reporters' questions about whether the US was planning to attack Iran or its nuclear facilities and said the Iranians had contacted him but that it was too late to talk now.
"There's a big difference between now and a week ago. Nobody knows what I'm going to do, " Trump told reporters outside the White House.
A source familiar with internal discussions said Trump and his team were considering options that included joining Israel in strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.
However, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has rejected Trump's demand for unconditional surrender. It remains to be seen how this conflict will develop further and whether the US will be involved in another war in the Middle East./ Pamphlet
