Iran will impose temporary restrictions on internet access, the Communications Ministry said, according to Iranian media.
The statement said the measure was to prevent "threats to the lives and property of citizens by the enemy."
Internet monitor NetBlocks said: "Live network data shows that Iran is now in the midst of a near-total nationwide internet outage; the incident follows a series of previous partial outages and comes amid escalating military tensions with Israel after days of rocket attacks."
This comes as Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Nobitex, went offline after a suspected cyberattack, which Iranian sources have described as a “security threat.” Nobitex plays a key role in Iran’s cryptocurrency market, an increasingly popular way to store value and conduct transactions in the face of economic instability.
The hacktivist group Predatory Sparrow, which previously claimed responsibility for the attack on Bank Sepah – an institution linked to the armed forces – has also claimed responsibility for the attack on Nobitex. They accuse the platform of helping to evade international sanctions and finance terrorism. Iranian authorities have linked the group to Israel.
