
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a summit on the Ukraine issue will be held next week in Paris. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also be part of the summit.
During this summit, measures for short-term support for the Ukrainian army will be finalized. Macron stressed that the focus of France and the coalition is on defending Ukraine and providing European security guarantees. He reiterated that discussions on security guarantees will only begin when Russia and Ukraine commit to a sustainable ceasefire.
Macron also stressed that it is legitimate for Ukraine, as a sovereign nation, to determine what is necessary to ensure its defense. He announced that Europe has prepared a rearmament strategy to renew its defense force, aiming for full independence within the next five years. This strategy is part of a broader plan to increase the independence and security of Europe.
In his discussions, Macron also mentioned budget preparations for defense challenges, Artificial Intelligence, technology and the climate transition. He stressed that Europe has moved from a period of peace, where defense investments could be ignored, to a phase where these investments are essential to ensure stability in the region.
In addition, Macron announced his trip to Egypt on April 7 and 8, as well as a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Paris. He also stressed the importance of restoring calm and fighting terrorism in Syria and announced that he would discuss this issue with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in the coming days.
