The Ministry of Defense and the headquarters of the Serbian army has presented the plan for the modernization of the army.
Called "Project 5000", the plan is about tripling the number of special forces in regular military service.
According to the presentation made by the Ministry of Defense, Serbia will increase the number of special air attack units, "Cobra" special units and military reconnaissance structures.
In a report carried out by the Kosovo Center for Security Studies, this development of the Serbian army is seen as a threat to the region.
The arming of military attack units by Serbia is seen as a threat to other countries, which will be forced to review their defense plans. Kosovo is the first state most endangered by the armament at these levels of the Serbian army, but other states, such as Croatia, will also be forced to take measures.
The Kosovo Center for Security Studies suggests that the Kosovo government should draw up a new defense plan, following the increase in Serbia's military capacity.
Meanwhile, in recent years, Serbia has invested millions of dollars in the purchase of modern weapons and the latest military technology from Russia and China.
