Mass protests against the country's leadership have taken place again in Serbia.
Tens of thousands of people gathered in Belgrade yesterday (09.06.2023) in a demonstration against President Aleksandar Vucic and the ruling SNS party.
The participants in the protest demonstration gathered in front of the parliament in the center of the capital and marched in two separate columns towards the seat of the government, Serbian media reported.
Critics accuse the 53-year-old president of an autocratic political style and an economy of tariffs. They demanded the resignation of President Aleksandar Vucic as well as the officials responsible for the security apparatus. Protesters accuse Vučić and the boulevard media under his control of creating a climate of hatred and violence.
According to the protestors, the government is not opposing with the appropriate determination the widespread violence in the country, the private possession of weapons and organized crime. In addition, it is also criticized for corruption and the limitation of media freedom.
Vucic said on Friday that the government cannot be held responsible for the crimes. The demonstration was organized by left-wing opposition parties and civic movements.
