The year 1960 has gone down in history as one of the years with the most frequent reports of unidentified flying objects.
Thousands of citizens in those years had reported that they had seen a "UFO" at least once.
But the mystery is now over, and for alien enthusiasts it is not what it seems.
The Pentagon has revealed in a report made public recently, that it was not actually about aliens, but about an intensive year of testing spy planes.
The report also says that mistaking the secret planes for aliens had such an impact on society that it affected culture.
" The proliferation of television programs, books, films, and the vast amount of Internet and social media content focused on UAP-related topics has most likely influenced the public conversation on the topic and reinforced these beliefs within some parts of the population. " says the report.
A Pentagon spokesman said officials had approached the report with an open mind, but had simply failed to find evidence of extraterrestrial visitors.
" All investigative efforts, at all levels of classification, concluded that most of the sightings were ordinary objects and phenomena and the result of misidentification ," said Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder.
