Dmitry Medvedev, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, described US President Joe Biden as a "disgrace" to the US today. In fact, as he himself commented, Biden has no right to compare himself to Franklin Roosevelt.
Biden began his State of the Nation address yesterday by referencing Roosevelt's 1941 address to Congress, in which the late president said the union was facing an unprecedented turn in history.
Biden also accused Republican rival Donald Trump of kowtowing to Russia, and just over two weeks after calling Putin a "crazy bastard," he said he had a message for Putin on Ukraine: "We will not give in."
"Even though Roosevelt was a downtrodden man in a wheelchair, he pulled America out of the Great Depression. Biden, on the other hand, is a madman, with mental disabilities, who is determined to drag humanity to hell," wrote Medvedev, former president of Russia and currently vice-chairman of the Russian Security Council, on Platform X.
"Roosevelt together with the allies, including the USSR, fought for peace. Instead, Biden is determinedly and persistently trying to start World War III. Roosevelt fought against fascists, but Biden is fighting for them. It is the shame of the USA," Medvedev wrote in English.
Diplomats say his views are indicative of the thinking at the highest levels of the Kremlin's elite.
The war in Ukraine has sparked a deep crisis in Russia's relations with the West, and Biden has angered Russian officials by calling Putin a "crazy bastard."
